Special Effects from Music Video History

Image
Take on Me -  A-ha This music video impressed me the most.  It tells the story of a cartoon character who falls in love with a woman in a diner who's reading the comic book he appears in.  It was done by hand using a technique called rotoscoping. Eventually you project the video on a screen or  rotoscope  and trace the image. It is done frame by frame. For this particular video around 3000 drawings were made. It took 16 weeks to complete them. I think for a video of its time, it uses innovative technology that portrays a lot of skill and  dedication, and therefore impressed me the most. The three dimensional feature of the hand appearing out of the comic book was the most impressive feature in my opinion, or the transition between comic drawings and real life within a single frame.

Burn the Witch - Radiohead Todorov's Narrative Theory There are 5 stages that a narrative can progress through A state of equilibrium where all is as it should be - everything in the town is as it should be, in a state of normality and peace A disruption of the order - the man in the black suit visits A recognition that the disorder has occurred - while giving the man a tour the other man that runs the town notices him writing things on his clipboard An attempt to repair the damage of the disruption - they sacrifice the man in the black suit by burning him alive in a wooden man A return or restoration of a new equilibrium - repetition of the bird tweeting in the tree that was shown at the beginning of the music video Stop Where You Are - Corrine Bailey Rae Theories of Identity - Gauntlett Argues that the media have an important role but complex relationships with identities In a modern world, it is now an expectation that individuals make choices about the...
